School Wide Activities

Our goal is to ensure that upon leaving Utah St Span School, all students will have achieved academic success, social emotional growth, and have the knowledge, attitude, and skills necessary to set and accomplish meaningful goals. In order to achieve this goal, the counseling department provides school wide activities to support their academic, social-emotional, and College & Career development.

Classroom Counseling Lessons

As Professional School Counselors, we provide Classroom Counseling Lessons to all students. Topics for the lessons fall within the three ASCA Domains: Academic, Social-Emotional, and College/Career.

School Counselors provide Short-term (6-8 week) Group Counseling to students in need of additional support. For example, topics for these groups may include: Social Skills, Skills for Learning, Relational Aggression, Resiliency, Friendship, Family Change, and Impulse Control.

Individual Counseling

As school counselors, we provide short term (6-8 week) 1:1 student counseling for academics, college/career, and social-emotional development.

Confidentiality

School Counselors have a primary obligation to ensure confidentiality with their client, the student. Any student working with the School Counselor has the right to privacy and the promise of confidentiality. In order to ensure meaningful and honest dialogue within the counseling relationship, the student must be able to have trust and confidence in their counselor.

Prior to each session, all students and families are made aware of the confidentiality statement and exceptions. Exceptions to confidentiality exist in which the counselor must inform others of this information in order to prevent  "serious or foreseeable harm" to the student, others, or if "legally required."
